Old Meeting House and Burying

The site of the first meeting house and burial ground is located in Weston Park on Meetinghouse Road, near the intersection of Turkey Hill Road. This particular site was selected as it was deemed to be the exact center of the Town. The structure was constructed of wood and measured 50 feet long by 34 feet wide. This meeting house was abandoned when the new town hall on Baboosic Lake Road was built. After years of neglect, the structure was eventually lost to fire on the morning of July 4, 1896. A large granite stone believed to be the front step marks the site of the first seat of Merrimack town government.
