Reeds Ferry Sewer and Drainage Project to begin after Memorial Day
The Town will begin a significant sewer and drainage upgrade project in the Reeds Ferry area of Merrimack. The project is scheduled to begin after Memorial Day.
This project includes the following work:
- New sewer and storm drain lines installed on DW Highway from Maple Street to just south of Depot Street. The storm drain line will be connected to the existing drain line on Depot Street and the new sewer will be connected to the existing sewer line on Maple Street.
- New sewer and drain lines installed on wheeler Street and Chapel Lane and some homes on Pleasant Street reconnected to the existing sewer line in the street.
- New pavement on DW Highway, Wheeler Street, and Chapel Lane.
- New sidewalk on the easterly side (southbound lane) of DW Highway.
It is anticipated that work on DW Highway will be completed by August 29, 2008 with work continuing into the Fall for Wheeler Street and Chapel Lane. This information will be updated periodically to include construction schedules.
Most of the work on DW Highway will be done at night between the hours of 9 pm and 6 am.
Work on Wheeler Street, Chapel Lane, and Pleasant Street will be done between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm.

During test pits and borings this week by Park Construction, the ledge that exists where the sewer line will be located, from just north of Maple Street to approximately the intersection of Chapel Lane, was profiled.
Park Construction representatives will begin a pre-blast survey of homes and businesses this weekend since blasting will be necessary. For those who live or have a business in the immediate area, please expect a knock on your door this weekend notifying you of the upcoming blasting.
We anticipate blasting to begin during the day mid to late next week. When an exact day is known, I will inform you. This will be a controlled, covered blast in which you may hear or feel something or see a little dust in the air.
As a reminder, sewer work will begin this Sunday at 9 pm at the intersection of Maple Street. In addition, the Town will begin holding weekly meetings, beginning this coming Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10 am at Ruthie's Restaurant, on the corner of DW Highway and Harris Avenue for residents and business owners to voice their concerns and provide comments to us.

UPDATE June 6, 2008
Blasing began today (Thursday, June 5th) to remove ledge where the sanitary sewer will be located. Park Construction expects to blast tomorrow (June 6th) and possibly Monday, June 9th. We will provide an update when they expect to resume night work on DW Highway.
UPDATE July 7, 2008
Work continues on sewer service connection of DW Highway. they will not be in the road. Night work next week will consist of removing the concrete slabs on the southbound lane of DW Highway. In addition, a crew will begin working days on Chapel Lane and Wheeler Street to install sewer and drainage next week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is anticipated by Park Construction that they will do the grading/paving of DW Highway the week of July 14th. Grading will be done during the day, requiring an alternating traffic pattern and paving will be done at night. More information will follow on the anticipated paving schedule (dates, time, etc.). UPDATE July 13 through 18, 2008
Night work will continue on DW Highway to remove concrete panels in the southbound lane. Day work includes installation of sewer and manholes on Chapel Lane and Wheeler Street and sewer service connections for homes and businesses on DW Highway. Park Construction anticipates fine grading and paving to be done on the 17th and 18th of July unless they get rained out. Paving will be done at night. UPDATE July 17, 2008
This Friday, July 18, 2008, preparation for paving DW Highway will begin. Work will be from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for fine grading; paving will begin around 10 pm through 8:00 am (approximate times) Saturday morning. Traffic delays should be expected. Day work will continue on Chapel Ln. and Wheeler Street from 7am to 5pm.
UPDATE July 21 through 25, 2008
Paving was completed over the weekend on DW Highway. The top or final coat will be put down next year to allow for one freeze/thaw cycle. Work on DW Highway will consist of opening the existing and new storm drains and setting curb for the new sidewalk. This work will be done during the day while maintaining two way traffic. Night work has been completed. Work will continue on Chapel Lane and Wheeler Street to install sewer and drainage.
UPDATE July 28 through August 1, 2008
The sidewalk will be paved next week and then work will shift to the east side of DW Highway (northbound lane) with two lanes of traffic being maintained. All of this work is day work. Service connections on Wheeler Street are being completed for sewer service; Park Construction anticipates starting drainage work on Chapel Lane and Wheeler Street mid week. Representatives for the project will be available at Ruthies Restaurant on Monday, July 28th at 10 a.m. to answer questions and concerns. UPDATE August 18 through August 22, 2008
Park Construction will begin raising sewer manholes on DW Highway tomorrow (8/19) to grade; two lanes of traffic will be maintained with some minor delays to move equipment in and out. This will be done after morning rush hour and before afternoon rush hour. Sewer manholes on Chapel Lane and Wheeler Street will be raised to grade also. It is expected to take two days to complete. Clean-up and property restoration is ongoing. Park Construction anticipates project completion will be before Labor Day (with the exception of final paving, which will be done next Spring).
UPDATE August 25 through August 29, 2008
The following work is scheduled:
- Hydro seeding lawns on Chapel Lane, Wheeler Street, and DW Highway;
- Building Inverts in sewer manholes on Chapel Lane, Wheeler Street, and DW Highway;
- Asphalt berm to be placed on Chapel Lane to direct storm runoff to catch basins;
- Wearing course (pavement) to be placed on driveway aprons.

A television inspection will be performed on the new sewer lines on Wednesday (11/5/2008) starting at approximately 8 a.m. These videos will give us baseline information for future inspections.
