D.A.R.E. Program
The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program has been part of a collaborative effort between the Merrimack Police Department and the Merrimack School District since 1989. This program is taught in the 5th grade as part of the core curriculum.
D.A.R.E lessons focused on:
- Acquiring skills to resist peer pressure
- Enhancing self-esteem
- Learning about alternatives to substance abuse
- Learner anger management and conflict resolution skills
- Developing risk-assessment and conflict evaluation
- Reduce violence
- Build interpersonal and communication skills
- Resist gang involvement and behavior
- Strong attention to alcohol/tobacco resistance techniques for minor
