Citizen's Academy Application

The Academy's objective is to acquaint the residents of Merrimack with their Police Department and its' operations. This ten week course will enable the participants to understand the professional standards that the Merrimack Police Department demands from its' officers. They will obtain knowledge of the day-to-day operations and duties of the various divisions within the department. Topics to be covered include:

• Overview of our organization
• Patrol Functions
• Criminal Investigations
• Community Policing
• Accident Investigation
• Court Proceedings / Criminal Justice System
• Firearms
• Arrest Procedures
• Defensive Tactics
• Communications (911)
• Animal Control
• School Resource Officers

Class participants will also ride with a patrol officer for four hours to see first hand what an officer may encounter during a shift. This academy is open to any Merrimack resident 18 years or older. For more information, please contact Mtpl. Robert Kelleher
