Motor Vehicle Warning

What is a warning?

In order to promote safe driving within our town, The Merrimack Police Department will issue warnings, when warranted, to drivers who violate certain motor vehicle laws. A warning should put the driver on notice that his driving, or the condition of his or her vehicle is unsafe and should be corrected. When given a warning, the driver will receive a written notice indicating the date and the time the driver was stopped by the officer. It will also indicate the violation for which the driver was stopped, as well as the driver's license and vehicle information.

The warning is processed at the Merrimack Police Station for our internal record keeping. The warning does not appear on the driver's motor vehicle record, nor is there any court action associated with the warning. The warning should serve the driver as a reminder to drive safely at all times, and that we all must work to keep our roadways safe.
