Child Care Providers & Foster Care Homes are Inspected by the Town Health Officer and Licensed by the State of New Hampshire
Role of the Health Officer in Childcare Licensing
Conducts inspections of facilities applying for child daycare agency licenses. Health officer inspections are also performed when a license is renewed once every three years. At the request of the Child Care Licensing Unit, Health Officers may conduct additional inspections to evaluate a specific alleged health risk or violation of environmental health rules in child daycare agencies. Such an inspection may be performed jointly with the regional licensing coordinator.

Role of the Health Officer in Foster Care Home Licensing
Individuals or families applying to become foster parents, or to adopt a child, must have their home(s) inspected as part of the requirements in order to gain approval from the NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Home inspections assess whether the home meets health and safety standards prior to the issuance of a license or permit.
