Attendees: Laura Jaynes, Christine Lavoie, Maureen Hall – Senior Citizens Club, Rick Greenier – MYA and Michelle Creswell

Parks and Recreation Director: Matt Casparius

1     Open Meeting/Introduction

 

2     Approval of minutes from February 21st 2018

  • Maureen Hall made the motion to accept the February Meeting Minutes
  • Christine Lavoie 2nd the motion
  • 5-0-0 motion passed

 

3    New Business

  • Eagle Scout Candidate Anthony Milani, Boy Scout Troop 272, Nashua – Wasserman Trails Kiosk (see attached presentation)
    • Wasserman Trails Kiosk Project proposed for the resident parking area at Wasserman Park
    • Anthony Milani proposed 2 versions of the type of kiosk that could be built
    • Cost of the project is just under $400
    • Fund raising ideas are bake sales and possible family donations
    • The proposed time to fundraise is April/May and the install time to follow
    • Christine Lavoie made the motion to approve the Wasserman Trails Kiosk Project and to be presented to the Town Council
    • Rick Greenier 2nd the motion
    • 5-0-0 motion passed

4    Old Business

  • Update from Merrimack Dog Park - Christine Lavoie
    • Dog Park Fund Balance – $1,800.54 (as of 3/2/18)
    • Possible fundraising ideas rare:
      • Chipotle and date is not confirmed
      • Calendar with Pet’s Choice and date is not confirmed
    • Pet CPR class with Pet’s Choice and date is not confirmed
  • O’Gara Drive Update - Matt Casparius
    • Mid-April is proposed date to open the Skateboard Park (weather depending)
    • Tennis and basketball courts will be removed and date is TBD
  • Athletic Fields Update - Michael Thompson – not present

5    Director's Report - Matt Casparius

  • Cabin 12 Storm Damage
    • 4 trees had snapped in the back of the cabin and due to the cost of removal the trees were not removed after the first storm
    • Trees have now been removed from a company that had a lower cost
  • Winter Carnival Update
    • 22 business’ participated
    • Approximately 500 people attended
  • Summer Camp
    • Registration is ongoing and have 308 kids registered
    • Summer Hiring is ongoing and need activities specialists (swimming, archery etc), Waterfront Director and Councilor in Training Coordinator
  • Summer Brochure is available at the Town Hall and on the website
  • Upcoming Special Events
    • 26thAnnual Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday, March 24th10am – 11:30am at Wasserman Park
    • Earth Day Clean Up - Sunday, April 22nd 10am – 12pm for all the parks with a general meeting at Town Hall for 9:30am before to receive trash bags – sign up on the website to participate

  • Senior Citizens Club - Maureen Hall
    • See attached document for roster of the club
    • Penny sale on 03.19.18
    • Annual indoor yard sale on 04.14.18 from 9am – 3pm with bake sale
    • Blood Drive was a success
  • MYA - Rick Greenier
    • 03.08.18 meeting was cancelled
    • Secretary and Member at Large positions are still open
    • Baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse will be starting soon
    • Basketball and wrestling have finished
  • Town Council –Peter Albert – was absent
  • School Board – Michael Thompson – was absent

8    Comments from the Committee – was none

  • Laura Jaynes mentioned that Tracy McGraw has made contact to become a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee
  • Laura Jaynes asked if there was anything to discuss about the waterfront area and Matt Casparius said they are in conversation with the state regarding what to do with the trees
